Live Review of Telefonics at the Beer Mug -10/18/02

The Telefonics show tonight featured the band as a six piece with the addition of vocalist Matt Thompson. Their set began with a brand new tune that hints at the direction the band is moving toward. This song was denser and a little darker than the upbeat bopping vibe of Telefonics' earlier work.

The focal point of this group is vocalist/theremin player Gina Rullo. Although at times showing influences such as Blondie or the Velvet Underground, Gina has a presence that takes the band into more artsy territory. Telefonics also features John Johnston on guitar & keyboard, Pete Burke on guitar, Kevin Manco on bass and Erik Mildner on drums.

John Johnston indicated that the band will begin recording its new CD within the next couple of weeks, and that some of the pieces will involve additional instruments and more complex orchestration.
